New Lawn Care FAQ’s

How to compete with your neighbours without blowing the budget.

After my new Turf has been layed, when should I water it?

Freshly layed Turf should be watered within 30 minutes of laying your lawn.
After the first watering, how often should I be watering my lawn?
Water your new lawn daily, depending on weather conditions, until it is firmly rooted. Check the rooting of your new lawn by carefully lifting a corner of the turf after 10 – 14 days.

Slight wilting or foot printing, that is when the grass doesn’t bounce back after walking on it, are indications that the lawn needs watering. Deep infrequent watering will help the grass develop strong root systems that can extract water from a larger volume of soil than shallow roots associated with light frequent watering.

When is the best time of the day to water my lawn?

The best time of the day to water your lawn and gardens is in the early morning hours between 4 AM and 8 AM. During this time less water is lost due to evaporation as a result of the lower temperatures and reduced sunlight.

How much water should I use?

The amount of water to apply depends on your soil type and the wetness of the soil. The preferable method is to thoroughly wet the soil to a depth of 150mm. After watering sink a shovel into the soil to make a small hole so you can see how far the water has penetrated.

When should I give my new lawn its first mow?

Your new lawn should be mowed within 10 – 14 days, depending on the grass type and season. The first mow should be a light trim, making sure not to scalp your new lawn. Once your lawn is firmly established mow, it to a desirable height and maintain it at this level.

Important Tip: Lawns require more mowing and watering in the Summer months and less of both as the temperature drops in the cooler months.
